Swiggy, one of India’s largest food delivery platforms, has introduced a new ‘High Protein’ category on its app. This special feature is made for people who want to eat healthier and make smarter food choices. Now, finding protein-rich meals is easy and convenient in many Indian cities.
What is the High Protein Category?
The High Protein category is a special section on Swiggy, where users can find meals that are rich in protein. This section is:
- Available in 30 cities, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh, and others.
- Includes over 5 lakh dishes from more than 35,000 restaurant partners across the country.
- Dishes are grouped by protein content and source, so you can find options made with paneer, soya, chicken, lentils, and more.
How Does It Work?
Swiggy has made it simple for users to find high-protein meals:
- Search for keywords like “protein” or “diet” in the Swiggy app.
- Enter the dedicated High Protein section to explore dishes.
- Use filters to choose your preferred protein source or set your dietary needs.
You can also browse your favorite restaurant’s menu, where protein-rich dishes are listed at the top for quick access.
Nutritional Standards
Every dish in this category meets clear nutrition rules:
- At least 15 grams of protein per serving.
- Less than 700 kilo-calories per meal.
- Protein calories make up at least 10% of the total calories in the dish.
These benchmarks mean meals are not only protein-packed but balanced for healthy eating.
Response So Far
During the pilot phase:
- Over 1.8 million users tried out the high protein options.
- The biggest interest came from metro cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi.
- Smaller cities such as Chandigarh also showed growing demand, showing that mindful eating is spreading across both big cities and semi-urban areas.
Why Is This Important?
Many Indians do not get enough protein in their daily diets:
- Over two-thirds of households in semi-arid regions,
- And nearly three-quarters of Indians overall,
- Do not meet the recommended daily protein intake.
The main reasons for this gap are lack of awareness, busy lifestyles, and limited easy choices in regular meals. Swiggy’s new feature is made to address this problem.
“We believe that small, everyday choices shape long-term well-being. Our goal is to make healthy choices more accessible without compromising on taste or convenience.”
