Prime Minister Narendra Modi is supporting farmers, small businesses, and young people in India as tensions rise over the US imposing a 25% tariff on Indian goods. Speaking in Varanasi, on 2nd August, he encouraged citizens to buy local products and support the Indian economy by choosing homegrown items whenever they can.

Big Boost for Farmers: 20,500 Crore Directly Transferred

During the event, Prime Minister Modi announced that the government will make the twentieth payment under the PM-Kisan program. This payment will transfer ₹20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of about 9.7 crore farmers. Enhancing small and marginal farmers’ financial stability and sense of dignity is the aim of this project.

2,200 Crore Projects to Strengthen Local Infrastructure

About ₹2,200 crore worth of development projects were started by him, including improvements to roads, urban services, healthcare, education, and tourism.   In smaller towns and rural areas, which are usually excluded from mainstream growth, these initiatives seek to enhance the standard of living and generate new opportunities.

No Compromise on MSMEs and Local Jobs

While addressing concerns over the US trade tariff hike, Modi made it clear that India will not let global pressure harm the backbone of its economy, its small businesses and workers. Government sources said the potential GDP impact from these tariffs would be minimal, around 0.2%, and that India is prepared to support affected sectors.

Trade Minister Piyush Goyal backed this up in Parliament, promising continued protection for farmers, dairy producers, and entrepreneurs. He emphasized that India’s long-term vision is rooted in self-reliance and resilience.

“Vocal for Local”: More Than a Slogan

Modi doubled down on the idea of being “Vocal for Local.” He encouraged people to make conscious choices, buying Indian-made products during weddings, festivals, or even just daily shopping. It’s part of the larger Atmanirbhar Bharat mission to build a stronger, more self-sustaining India.

In Short

  • 20,500 crore given to nearly 10 crore farmers
  • 2,200 crore in new development projects across sectors
  • Support for MSMEs and youth in the face of global trade tensions
  • Renewed call for citizens to buy local and support Indian businesses

The government is focused on keeping the Indian economy strong at the local level, especially as global trade changes quickly.
