OkCredit Helps Laid-Off Employees Find New Jobs

In a ruthless corporate world where layoffs are frequently viewed as the end of the world, OkCredit has established a remarkable new benchmark. Not only did the digital bookkeeping company recently make headlines for firing 70 employees, but it also went above and beyond to help them. Harsh Pokharna, the CEO of OkCredit, ensured that the impacted employees weren’t left to deal with the situation alone, in contrast to many other businesses that split up during layoffs.

A Compassionate Approach to Layoffs

Acknowledging the difficulty of the decision, Harsh Pokharna shared on LinkedIn, “Eighteen months ago, we made the tough call to let go of around 70 employees due to our high operational costs. As a founder, this was one of the hardest decisions, but we made sure to handle it the right way.”

True to his promise, the company did not just give notice of termination. Rather, OkCredit went out of its way to help the concerned employees find new jobs. Throughout the notice period of three months, the company did everything in its power to provide suitable job opportunities to the employees. As a consequence, 67 of the 70 employees secured new jobs even before the notice period ended. For the last three employees who were unable to secure jobs, the company provided support in the form of extra salaries.

OkCredit: Setting a Positive Benchmark

OkCredit’s positive approach has not only won the admiration of the business community but also established a new benchmark in employee care.

Looking Ahead

OkCredit’s progressive step sends a reassuring message: business choices, including the tough ones, can be made with decency and compassion. OkCredit has demonstrated to other business owners that they can stay pragmatic as well as compassionate, paving the way for other businesses with similar issues.
