Comedian Samay Raina has launched an app for his popular YouTube show India’s Got Latent, aiming to turn it into a full-fledged OTT platform. Within just a day of its release, the app climbed into the Top 50 on Google Play Store and secured the No.1 spot on Apple’s App Store.
The app offers fans access to all episodes of India’s Got Latent, while also allowing users to apply for participation, become members, or link their YouTube memberships starting at ₹59 per month. Additionally, it introduces a feature called “Stars of Latent” to spotlight standout performers.
Previously, Raina expressed reluctance to move the show to a traditional OTT platform, citing the creative freedom YouTube offers. He also praised YouTube memberships for providing creators with an innovative revenue stream. However, the app expands beyond India’s Got Latent, offering original content like the poetry competition Kavya Samrat, created in partnership with Tape A Tale, and an upcoming rap show featuring Delhi’s hip-hop duo Seedhe Maut and YouTuber Rohan Cariappa.
Raina has assured fans that the app will maintain its creative independence and be free from brand-imposed guidelines or censorship. This bold move allows creators more freedom while delivering unfiltered content.
Since its debut, India’s Got Latent has released 12 episodes featuring celebrity guests like Siddhant Chaturvedi, Badshah, Rakhi Sawant, and Vipul Goyal. The show averages an impressive 25 million views per episode, leveraging Raina’s 6.7 million YouTube subscribers. Sponsors such as POP UPI, Spinny, and Vastrado have supported select episodes.
A parody of India’s Got Talent, the show draws inspiration from Kill Tony, the American comedy series by Tony Hinchcliffe. Its unique scoring system, where contestants self-rate their performance and match it with the judges’ average to win ticket revenue, sets it apart.
Raina’s app has been praised for challenging traditional platforms, offering creators a fresh path to independence while pushing boundaries in digital content creation.
