HDFC Bank reports strong Q2 growth in advances and deposits

India’s largest private sector lender, HDFC Bank, said it ended its second quarter fiscal 2025 in good shape, reporting a 7% jump in gross advance, which stood at ₹25.19 lakh crore as of September 30, 2024, compared with ₹23.54 lakh crore on the same date last year.

Advances under management, including advances grossed up for inter-bank participation certificates, bills rediscounted, and securitization or assignment, stood at ₹26.33 lakh crore. This represents an 8% sequential growth from ₹24.37 lakh crore. Advances under management grew sequentially by 2.3% from ₹25.75 lakh crore as of June 30.

Retail loans grew by around ₹33,800 crore during the quarter, whereas commercial and rural banking loans by about ₹38,000 crore, while corporate and other wholesale loans contracted by ₹13,300 crore. HDFC Bank securitised or assigned loans totaling ₹19,200 crore, therefore, bringing the tally under its programs to optimize liquidity and strengthen the balance sheet to ₹24,600 crore for the year to date.

Deposits come next, on which HDFC Bank has shown a healthy growth of 15.1% to ₹25 lakh crore in Q2FY25. In the same period last year, had stood at ₹21.73 lakh crore. Thus, the sequential growth had been approximately 5.1% from₹23.79lakh crore as of June 30. CASA of the bank has grown by 8% year-on-year and 2.3% quarter-on-quarter, at ₹8.83 lakh crore, representing a very robust deposit franchise.

The bank had healthy liquidity coverage as presented by the ratio of about 127% for the quarter. This scenario would reflect that it possesses strong capital and is in good shape to service short-term obligations.

HDFC Bank shares witnessed a big block deal transaction on October 3 when Morgan Stanley and Citigroup bought 43.75 lakh shares through open market transactions for ₹755.29 crore. HDFC Bank shares traded 0.28% lower at ₹1,677.45 at 9:45 am on Friday on the Bombay Stock Exchange as the market fluctuated.
