To embark with the famous shloka (verse) in the Bhagwat Gita, “Karmanyewadhikaraste Ma Faleshukadachna” – Do your work honestly without thinking about the fruit it will fetch. This applies to the Businessman most aptly. In business, whosoever adopts this approach with patience achieves excellence sooner or later.
If you work with dedication, honesty and courage, you are bound to be successful. This is an unquestionable fact. If an employee lacks audacious spirit, it may be fine but an Entrepreneur cannot afford to. He has to be fearless and courageous. In business, one faces challenges of varying proportions constantly. Also at various stages, one has to demonstrate having a quick and decisive mind for the arising opportunities or there will be a possibility of taking wrong decisions during crucial phases.
For an industrialist, to identify and take the right decision, at the right moment and to identify the right opportunity at the right time, is a skill that he needs to master and being dauntless at such times is of utmost importance. The businessman who lacks adventurous spirit has limited ability to take right decisions. Such people miss out on many promising opportunities and eventually lose the chance of providing any growth to the company.
Let us take an example of two friends. Two very close friends started a company by the brand name ‘Space Wood’ in Nagpur in 1994. Both studied engineering together and became friends. After graduation, they searched for such a job that would give them time to do business alternately. Being valiant was an inherent quality that the two of them possessed from the very beginning. Initially, they worked in companies, named VIP and Godrej, as Apprentices and learnt the tasks very efficiently. They learnt the art and technology of making modular furniture proficiently. They also studied the developing technologies of various other countries. These two friends are Vivek Deshpande and Kirit Joshi.
After working for two years, they left their jobs in 1994. Subsequently, the two adventurous friends took a loan from the bank, brought two locally made woodworking machines and started their own business. They started working under a small shed. Their enthusiasm and precision in work attracted many customers who got impressed with their work. Within a short span of time, they hired old woodwork machines from VIP Company and raised their business to new heights.
In the first year itself, Vivek and Kirit churned a business of INR 19 lacs. With old machines, they were facing unexpected issues. Hence, in 1996, with their own money, they imported for the very first time, a new machine from Germany. During this phase, they faced numerous ups and downs, but due to their positive approach, enterprising nature and determined spirit, they were able to survive and sustain. The first lesson of their life which they learnt was “Be fearless, take risk and keep surging ahead.”
Due to their bold and heroic spirit, every year their company’s turnover kept on increasing. For a few years in between, they faced financial crises, but they did not give up and with enthusiasm and patience, they kept on moving ahead. A turning point came in their company in 2007. At that time, Kishore Biyani had started the chain of “Home Town” stores. To turn a house into a home, the essential furniture was readily available at Home Town. After relentless efforts, Home Town finally selected their company for Modular Kitchen. This day became the golden day in their lives, according to the two of them.
Within no time, in barely 5 days, they got another order from Big Bazaar to make 1000 modular kitchens. Their small company got a big breakthrough and moved towards becoming a huge organization.
“Spacewoods has proudly crossed a turnover of ₹600 crore, marking a significant milestone in its journey of innovation and growth.”
For their success, both the young entrepreneur friends admit that they possessed a fearless spirit right from their childhood, which proved to be their biggest strength. We have mastered the art of taking calculated risks. We have very religiously adopted the slogan, “No success without a daredevil approach. We are very enthusiastic and want to achieve a lot more in our endeavors. We have learnt a lot from foreign markets and we have acquired in-depth knowledge about what will work or not work in the Indian market.”
The conclusion is, if you have the courage then in today’s time, with even less investment, you can earn more. The prerequisites are courage, will power, adventurous, undefeatable spirit and enthusiasm. Courage is the only paramount, if you wish to see yourself as an Entrepreneur or a Business person.
As Tony Robbins (acclaimed life and business Coach) says, “Just like anyone can start their day with a killer workout, find a way to master a craft, find meaning in their work or create a passionate and loving relationship, the secret lies in being able to break through the fear and unlock the limiting beliefs to create the life of your dreams.”
