The story behind Dubai siblings transfer of JioHotstar.com domain
A Delhi-based app developer registered the JioHotstar.com domain last year amid talks of a merger between Reliance Jio and Disney Hotstar. Last month, he offered to transfer the domain if he received financial support for his studies at Cambridge University. When Reliance declined, Jainam and Jivika bought the domain.
Why Dubai siblings decided to transfer JioHotstar.com domain to Reliance
The siblings said the Reliance IP Legal team reached out to them. They decided to transfer the JioHotstar.com domain because they believed it would be beneficial to Reliance. “Rumours suggested a payment or deal, but that is not true,” they said.
No deal involved in the transfer of JioHotstar.com domain
Jainam and Jivika made it clear that no one pressured them, and there was no deal involved. They also revealed that they had received multiple genuine offers for the domain but chose not to sell. “We are transferring it because we believe it could be useful for Reliance. How they use it is up to them,” they said.

The siblings are waiting for Reliance’s legal team to send the draft agreement. They plan to visit Mumbai to sign it, finalizing the transfer. “Once we sign, the website will end,” they said.
Reliance’s recent merger with Disney’s India business strengthens its media position. This joint venture, valued at USD 8.5 billion, generates about Rs 26,000 crore in annual revenue.
