The Adani Group has further cemented its position in India’s aviation industry with the acquisition of Air Works, India’s largest private aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services company. The deal, valued at ₹400 crore, includes an 85.8% stake in Air Works and is executed through Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Ltd (ADSTL). This strategic acquisition is set to bolster Adani’s capabilities in both civil and defense aviation MRO services.
Strengthening aviation services across India
Air Works, headquartered in India, has a strong presence with operations spanning across 35 cities and a workforce of over 1,300 professionals. Known for servicing fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, Air Works is renowned for providing line maintenance, heavy checks, avionics, aircraft painting, and redelivery checks. The company’s facilities in Hosur, Mumbai, and Kochi are equipped to perform base maintenance for a variety of aircraft types, including narrowbody, turboprop, and rotary aircraft.
The company also boasts approvals from aviation regulatory authorities in over 20 countries, making it a key player not only in the Indian aviation industry but also globally.
A step toward integrated aviation ecosystem
Adani Group’s strategic acquisition aligns with its vision to create an integrated aviation services ecosystem that strengthens India’s aviation infrastructure. Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airports, emphasized the transformation of India’s aviation sector, which has become the third-largest globally. “This acquisition is part of our broader vision to enhance aviation services in India and create a robust ecosystem that supports the growth of the aviation industry,” he said.
The acquisition also plays into India’s ambitions to boost its defense sector, with Air Works bringing significant expertise in supporting the Indian Navy’s P-8I aircraft and the Indian Air Force’s 737 VVIP fleet. This will directly contribute to the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by enhancing the domestic MRO capabilities for defense aviation.
A milestone for India’s aviation and defense growth
Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, highlighted the importance of this acquisition in scaling up India’s aviation and defense capabilities. “This landmark acquisition is not just about expanding services; it’s a step towards creating a full-spectrum MRO ecosystem that caters to both the commercial and defense sectors.”
The deal also supports Adani’s broader ambitions in the aviation and defense sectors, aiming to meet growing demand for MRO services as India expands its fleet of commercial and defense aircraft in the coming years.
A growing aviation hub
As India prepares for the induction of over 1,500 aircraft in the near future, this acquisition by Adani Group places it in a prime position to capitalize on the increasing demand for integrated aviation services. The move also underscores the country’s potential to become a hub for global aviation, with Adani Group poised to play a crucial role in the sector’s growth.
