The Digi Yatra app, India’s revolutionary digital travel platform, has surpassed 9 million active users. With a daily average of 30,000 downloads, the platform is rapidly transforming air travel across the country. Powered by face-biometric technology, Digi Yatra offers contactless and seamless passenger processing at airports, enhancing efficiency and convenience for travellers.
A game-changer in Indian air travel
Digi Yatra began its journey at three major airports in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi, and has since expanded to 24 airports nationwide. To date, the platform has facilitated over 42 million seamless journeys, reflecting growing passenger trust and acceptance of this digital innovation.
Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation, called 2024 a landmark year for the platform, noting its role in reshaping Indian air travel. He stated, “This year has been about more than just technological advancements. It’s about building trust and redefining passenger experiences.”
Expanding reach and accessibility
Looking ahead, Digi Yatra plans to add four more airports by early 2025, further solidifying its presence. By March 2025, the platform aims to support all 22 official Indian languages, making it more inclusive and accessible to travellers across the country.
Focus on privacy and international expansion
One of Digi Yatra’s standout initiatives in 2024 was the launch of the “Don’t Know Your Customer” (d-KYC) campaign. This campaign emphasises the platform’s commitment to user privacy by ensuring no passenger data is stored in central repositories.
The platform is also setting its sights on international expansion. By June 2025, Digi Yatra plans to launch a pilot programme for foreign travellers with electronic passports, demonstrating its robust security and scalability. Establishing bilateral agreements will be a key focus to make this initiative a reality.
In 2024, Digi Yatra partnered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), further solidifying its global presence and credibility. The collaboration aims to align Digi Yatra with international standards, paving the way for smoother cross-border air travel.
