SoftBank has pared its holding in Ola Electric Mobility through a fresh round of open-market deals, with its investment vehicle SVF II Ostrich (DE) LLC offloading a 2.15% stake in the electric two-wheeler maker, regulatory disclosures show.
What was sold, and when
Ola Electric’s December sales were 8,402 units, described as largely flat, even as its market share rose to 9.05%, placing it fifth in the rankings. Rival Ather Energy recorded 16,391 units in the same month with a 17.62% market share.SoftBank’s stake after the sale
Before the divestment, the entity held 69.16 crore shares, translating to a 15.68% stake in Ola Electric’s equity. After selling, its holding declined to 59.7 crore shares, reducing its ownership to 13.53%.
Not the first trim in 2025
This is not SoftBank’s first step-down in Ola Electric over the past year. The filing also references an earlier round of selling between July and September 2025, when SoftBank offloaded shares that reduced its stake from 17.83% to 15.68%.
Context: pressure on the stock and investor exits
“Ola Electric’s sales in December were 8,402 units, which was nearly flat,” although its “market share was up at 9.05%, making it the fifth biggest in the country.” Its close competitor, Ather Energy, sold “16,391 units in December, with a market share of 17.62%.”. Operating snapshot: December sales and market share
Ola Electric’s December sales were 8,402 units, described as largely flat, even as its market share rose to 9.05%, placing it fifth in the rankings. Rival Ather Energy recorded 16,391 units in the same month with a 17.62% market share.
The Significance
For Ola Electric, the latest stake reduction is significant less for its size 2.15% and more for what it signals: continued churn among large shareholders while the company tries to stabilise sentiment and demonstrate consistency in demand.
On a market-wide basis, the filing is a testament to the scrutiny that investors and analysts find promoter and institution actions in EV-listed names subject to rapidly shifting levels of confidence.
