One of India’s leading journalists, Sonia Singh, has resigned as Editorial Director at NDTV, ending a glorious three-decade-long journey with the media group. Her last day of work will be April 30, 2025.

NDTV confirmed the departure through an official statement, noting that Singh had stepped down due to her “future career plans.” In her resignation email, Singh expressed gratitude to the board and management, stating, “It has been a privilege to contribute to the company’s growth. I am thankful for the support and cooperation extended to me over the years.”

A Stalwart of Indian Journalism

Singh started her association with NDTV in 1992 when she was hired as a researcher when the channel made The World This Week for Doordarshan. She went on to rise through the ranks to Editorial Director. Also, she worked as President of the NDTV Ethics Committee, responsible for ensuring the company’s commitment to journalistic standards and ethical reporting.

During her three-decade-long career, Singh reported on India’s most momentous events, ranging from the Kargil war and Kandahar hijack to the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai and the Jessica Lall murder case. Her sharp political and social reporting had established her as a fearless and reliable voice among Indian journalists.

Apart from newsroom leadership, Singh also hosted The NDTV Dialogues, a show featuring discussions with policymakers, experts, and thought leaders on national and global issues.

An Influential Career and a Legacy of Integrity

Apart from journalism, Singh’s academic qualifications include a Chevening scholarship for a course in broadcast journalism at Cardiff University and a three-month Italian language scholarship in Perugia provided by the Government of Italy.

Her departure from NDTV marks the end of an era at the news network, which has undergone significant leadership changes in recent years. While she has not disclosed her next professional move, industry watchers are keen to see where the veteran journalist takes her career next.

As the Indian media landscape continues to evolve, Singh’s exit from NDTV underscores a shift in the newsroom, but her legacy as a journalist dedicated to ethics and storytelling remains firmly intact.
