Jon Slade, who currently serves as the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at the Financial Times (FT), has been appointed as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Financial Times Group. His tenure as CEO will officially begin on July 1.
With a career of three decades in the media industry, Slade has worked with Financial Times for over 20 years. He has worked in different roles throughout his FT career, including in the advertising department, before being appointed as CCO in 2014. His tenure involved him joining the management board of FT, where he played a central role in deciding the commercial direction of the company.
Slade said, “It is an honor to lead Financial Times, a brand with a 137-year legacy of delivering independent and high-quality journalism to a global audience. The news media landscape is evolving rapidly, and I look forward to steering FT through the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Naotoshi Okada, chairman and group CEO of Nikkei Inc. and parent group of FT, appreciated Slade’s experience at the FT Group and his sense of the future. “Jon’s leadership qualifications and abilities put him well placed to lead expansion and guide the industry through the competitive and geopolitical forces that dominate it,” said Okada.
Slade’s appointment follows the decision of long-time CEO John Ridding to step down this summer after nearly two decades leading the company.
