Karnataka School Will Pay You ₹1,000 to Study : Headmaster’s unique initiative

Belagavi, Karnataka – A government school headmaster in the tiny Karnataka village of Adahallati has taken an unprecedented measure to promote student enrolment in a touching demonstration of commitment and creativity. He implemented the “School Fixed Deposit Scheme,” personally investing ₹1,000 in a fixed deposit account for each new student who enrols, to counteract the decline in admissions.

Before infrastructure issues and rising migration caused a steady drop in enrolment, this school, which opened in 2005, thrived with 60–70 students. The school might have to close with just 18 pupils left by 2023. Headmaster Siddamalla Khot created this special incentive to encourage families to place a higher priority on education because he was determined to buck the trend.

When the pupil turns 18, the ₹1,000 deposit will mature under the plan, providing them with future financial assistance. Despite the seemingly small sum, the program has sparked parental interest again, which has resulted in a notable increase in admissions. Nine new students enrolled on the first day of the new school year, and the number is still rising, so the results are already apparent.

Beyond Financial Support: A Holistic Educational Revival

Khot has more in mind than just financial rewards. He has taken an active role in educating the neighbourhood by:

  • Student quiz contests every month
  • Workshops to develop skills for young people in the area
  • Enhancing learning outcomes through summer coaching classes
  • Raising money to upgrade school facilities

His tireless efforts have restored student involvement and enhanced the school’s image, proving that grassroots innovation can transform education.

Looking Ahead: Bridging Infrastructure Gaps

The school still has infrastructure issues, such as a lack of a boundary wall and facilities for clean drinking water, even after the program’s success. Khot is upbeat, though, stressing that his objective is to provide kids with a solid educational basis rather than merely draw them in.

This project is a model for rural education reform, thanks to the community’s support and heightened awareness. Small schools on the verge of closing can be turned into flourishing learning hubs if additional initiatives of this like are repeated throughout India.

Education is the foundation of progress, and this headmaster’s initiative is a testament to the power of perseverance and innovative thinking.
