In 2012, two imaginative women Avneet Mann and Vivita Relan braved corporate career ceilings to co-found The Wishing Chair, a Delhi‑based lifestyle and gifting brand celebrated for its dreamy, feminine aesthetic. With stores in Shahpur Jat (Delhi) and Gurgaon, plus a robust e‑commerce platform, the brand has earned a loyal following among millennial and Gen Z urban women seeking magical, nostalgic décor and stationery.
The Founders’ Journey: From Corporate to Creative Minds

Avneet Mann, armed with an MBA and nearly a decade in marketing roles, experienced a “quarter‑life crisis”a longing to do something more meaningful and joyfully creative.
On the other hand, Vivita Relan left a budding career at the Hindustan Times and a stint in food journalism/restaurants after just nine months. Sharing dreams of a creative venture, Vivita and Avneet joined forces to design a brand that would reconnect adults with childhood wonder.
They selected the name “The Wishing Chair” from Enid Blyton’s beloved children’s book, reflecting their brand philosophy: to transport customers back to a world of fantasy and delight.
A Brand Built on Joy and Belonging
The Wishing Chair opened its first store in Shahpur Jat in July 2012, offering an immersive, Pinterest‑worthy experience filled with pastel planters, quirky ceramics, stationery, lamps, home accents and even an in‑house café called Mad Teapot.
Their product line designed by an in‑house team of creatives includes whimsical, handcrafted home décor, stationery, and gifting items described as “magical, dreamy, fairy‑tale, whimsical, feminine, playful, and wondrous.”
Growing Through Authenticity & Community

Despite early challenges bootstrapping the venture with a modest ₹40 lakhs capital, Avneet and Vivita focused on brand authenticity over rapid scale. They sought to cultivate real connection through community‑driven events, pop‑ups, and workshops, ensuring The Wishing Chair remained more than just a store.
Their focus on operations is just as steadfast: implementing ERP systems, robust supply chains, and in‑house production to scale mindfully without sacrificing quality or whimsy.
The Future: Expanding the Fairy‑Tale
Today, The Wishing Chair has three outlets (Delhi, Gurgaon, Bangalore) and an online presence that delivers across India. Following pandemic‑era growth, their e‑commerce revenues have more than doubled through targeted expansion and a growing customer base.
With a vision to scale nationwide and eventually internationally,Avneet and Vivita continue channeling childhood nostalgia through thoughtful, feminine-centric designs. Their goal is clear: to inspire women everywhere to add colour, charm, and joy to their homes.
