Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to expand its international presence with its newly unveiled pickup, the Scorpio Lifestyler. The company plans to use the new model as an important part of its global growth strategy, with markets such as South Africa, Australia, the Middle East and Latin America being considered for exports.
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra’s Auto and Farm Sectors, said the pickup has been developed as a global platform. The vehicle will be sold in India as the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler and is scheduled to enter the Indian market in April 2027. In international markets, it will be sold under the name Mahindra Lifestyler.
Mahindra’s global ambitions for the pickup build on its existing presence in overseas markets. The company has previously identified international markets as an important opportunity for its automotive business, particularly as newer products gain traction outside India.
South Africa, Australia and Latin America in focus
The company sees several regions as potential destinations for the new pickup. Jejurikar identified South Africa, Australia, the Middle East and Latin America as markets where the Lifestyler could be introduced.
Mahindra could also explore opportunities in the ASEAN region, where pickups have significant demand. However, the company currently has a presence in only Indonesia among ASEAN markets. Expanding into other countries in the region would therefore require Mahindra to establish operations in those markets along with the introduction of suitable products.
The company’s existing export portfolio already includes SUVs sold across markets such as Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa and South America. Its earlier global pickup strategy has also included markets such as South Africa and Australia.

Lifestyle use could create an Indian opportunity
While the Scorpio Lifestyler is being positioned strongly as a global product, Mahindra also sees potential for the pickup in India.
The company believes changing consumer preferences could create demand for vehicles designed around recreational and outdoor activities. Over recent years, more customers have shown interest in experiences such as curated holidays, camping and outdoor trips where they can carry their own equipment.
This could give the Lifestyler a role beyond conventional pickup use. The vehicle could appeal to customers looking to carry equipment for activities ranging from camping trips with family and friends to requirements associated with outdoor and agricultural lifestyles.
Mahindra has previously positioned its Scorpio-based pickups around lifestyle and global markets, making the new Lifestyler part of a broader effort to develop products with appeal beyond traditional utility applications.
EV sales add another growth engine
Alongside its export plans, Mahindra is also seeing rapid growth in electric passenger vehicles. The company said EV penetration reached 12 per cent of its total SUV volume after the launch of models including the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S.
Mahindra has continued to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the introduction of the BE 6 SPORTEQ, which is scheduled to reach the market later in August.
Jejurikar said the company expects EV penetration to continue increasing, although the final share will also depend on the volume of internal combustion engine vehicles sold.
Electric vehicle volumes rise sharply
Mahindra’s electric four-wheeler sales have also recorded a significant increase. According to the company’s latest annual report, electric four-wheeler sales rose to 57,472 units in 2025-26 from 14,183 units in the previous year, marking a fourfold increase.
The company’s broader automotive export performance has also strengthened. Its automotive sector recorded export volumes of 41,030 vehicles in 2025-26, compared with 34,709 vehicles a year earlier, representing an 18.2 per cent increase.
With the Scorpio Lifestyler planned for India in 2027 and intended for multiple international markets, Mahindra is looking to combine its growing export business with new lifestyle-focused products and continued expansion in electric SUVs.
