Apple could make a major change to its iPhone launch strategy next year, with reports suggesting that the iPhone 18 series may not arrive entirely in September as previous generations have. The company is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 could be pushed to spring 2027.
The reported shift would give Apple more time to focus attention on its premium models during the second half of the year. It could also change how customers plan their upgrades, particularly those who normally wait for the standard iPhone before making a purchase.
Pro Models Could Arrive First in September
According to reports, Apple is considering a split launch for the iPhone 18 lineup. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be the first models to arrive, potentially making their debut in September 2026.
The standard iPhone 18, meanwhile, could follow several months later in spring 2027. If Apple adopts this approach, it would represent a departure from the company’s traditional strategy of launching its main iPhone models around the same time.
The staggered schedule could place greater emphasis on the Pro models during the initial launch period, while giving Apple another major product release to promote when the standard iPhone eventually arrives.

Rising Component Costs May Push Prices Higher
The iPhone 18 Pro could also become more expensive in India. Leaks and analyst expectations suggest that the Pro model could start at around Rs 1,34,900 in the country.
One of the factors being linked to the possible price increase is the rising cost of DRAM, along with supply constraints affecting components. Apple is reportedly negotiating discounts on some components, but higher input costs could still influence the final pricing of its upcoming devices.
Indian retail prices can also be affected by factors such as currency movements, taxes and import duties. As a result, the final price of the iPhone 18 Pro in India could depend on several cost factors beyond Apple’s component expenses.
Case Leak Hints at Familiar Pro Design
The external design of the iPhone 18 Pro may not change dramatically compared with the previous generation. An OtterBox case spotted at Best Buy reportedly lists compatibility with both the iPhone 17 Pro and the unreleased iPhone 18 Pro.
The listing has fueled expectations that the two Pro models could share similar external dimensions. If that proves accurate, some existing Pro users may find that their current cases remain compatible with the next-generation model.
However, similarities in dimensions do not necessarily mean the internal hardware will remain unchanged. The iPhone 18 Pro models are still expected to receive internal upgrades, including larger batteries and camera-related improvements.
Regulatory filings have also been linked to increased battery capacities for both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, pointing to potential changes beneath the familiar exterior.
Foldable iPhone Could Expand Apple’s 2026 Lineup
Apple’s September event could also become more significant if the company introduces its first foldable iPhone. The device has been rumoured to feature a 7.8-inch display when unfolded, along with new multitasking capabilities designed around its larger screen.
The potential foldable launch would give Apple another premium device alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and could mark a new product category for the company.
More Apple Devices Could Follow
Apple’s wider product pipeline may also include several other devices. Leaks from macOS code have pointed to products such as AirPods featuring infrared cameras, new smart home devices and updated Apple Watch models.
Other products could arrive later in 2027 rather than alongside the September launches. These are expected to include OLED-equipped iPads and MacBooks.
If the reported schedule materialises, Apple’s 2026 and 2027 product cycle could look considerably different from its usual launch pattern, with premium iPhones arriving first and several other devices following across the subsequent months.
