Hatsun Agro acquires Milk Mantra in ₹233 crore mega dairy deal

Hatsun Agro, a top dairy firm in India, plans to buy Milk Mantra Dairy for ₹233 crore. This buy will help Hatsun Agro grow in Odisha and East India. Once the deal is done, Milk Mantra will be wholly owned by Hatsun Agro, the firm said.

Milk Mantra’s brand joins Hatsun

Milk Mantra Dairy is well-known for its brand ‘Milky Moo,’ which sells milk and dairy goods in Odisha. Adding Milky Moo will boost Hatsun Agro’s list of brands, which already includes Arun, IBACO, Hatsun, and Arokya.

A smart move to new areas

Hatsun Agro sees this buy as a smart way to grow into new areas. The firm said Milk Mantra’s work fits well with their goals and helps them grow. They also want to reach out to nearby states like North Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.

Milk Mantra’s recent turnaround

Milk Mantra made₹276 crore in revenue in FY24, with an EBITDA of₹16.1 crore and a net profit of₹9.78 crore. This is a big jump from a loss of ₹12.3 crore in FY23. Hatsun Agro sees this buy as a smooth way to increase its market reach.

Focus on nutrition in Odisha

In another news story, a Minister in Odisha said there are plans to add 200 ml of fortified milk to school meals. This shows a rising focus on good nutrition in the area.

Growth in India’s dairy sector

India’s dairy market is active. In 2024, the big food firm Danone put in €20 million to grow its nutrition plant in Punjab. They want India to be one of their top five markets in the world and plan to train 5,000 small dairy farmers in smart methods.

India: A leader in Dairy

India is still the world’s top milk producer, making up 23% of the world’s milk. With smart buys like Hatsun Agro’s and global investments, the dairy market in India is set for more growth.
