Beware of FedEx courier drug scam, Safeguard Yourself!

Another Fake call scam is being discussed on social media, where criminals make false calls impersonating FedEx officials, police, or officers of enforcement agencies to blackmail innocent citizens. They get threatening calls stating that illegal items, including drugs, have been detected in their FedEx packages. The scammers then dupe them into paying large amounts to “resolve” the matter.

How Does the Scam Work?

  1. Fake Call from “FedEx” Representative
Scammers pose as FedEx employees and inform the victim that a package addressed to them contains illegal drugs or other contraband.
  2. Threat of Legal Action by Fake Police/ED Officers
The victim is then transferred to a so-called CBI, Police, or Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer, who issues a legal threat, claiming they are under investigation.
  3. Demand for Immediate Payment
The fraudster demands immediate online payment to avoid arrest, a police case, or other legal consequences.
  4. Trapped in Fear & Manipulation
Victims, fearing legal trouble, often panic and transfer large sums of money to fake accounts.
  5. Fraudsters Disappear After the Payment
Once the payment is made, the scammers vanish—numbers become unreachable, and emails remain unanswered.

Real Victims Speak Out

Many Indians have fallen for this scam. A Mumbai businessman lost ₹5 lakhs, fearing an arrest warrant. In another case, a Delhi woman paid ₹2 lakhs before realizing the fraud.

As per Money Control, A victim shared, “The caller sounded very professional. They used official-sounding terms and even had background noise to simulate a call centre. They scared me into paying immediately.”

Another scam happened last year in Pune, where a woman was cheated of Rs 25 lakh: ‘Drugs in parcel’ scam

  3. Never Share Personal or Bank Details – No courier company asks for it.
  4. Do Not Make Any Payments – Real legal actions never require “instant payments.”

  2. Block the number.
