BSNL Reports ₹262 Crore Profit for the First Time Since 2007

State-owned telecommunication giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has made a profit of Rs 262 crore for the third quarter of the current financial year, which is its first in nine years since 2007.

It’s all because of BSNL’s emphasis on innovation, push network rollout, cost optimisation, and customer-focused service improvements, according to a company release.

BSNL Managing Director and Chairman A. Robert J. Ravi stated, “We are optimistic that revenue growth will pick up further, crossing 20% towards the close of the financial year. Mobility, FTTH, and Leased Lines revenue has grown by 15%, 18%, and 14%, respectively, over the last Q3 of the previous year.

He also pointed out that BSNL has been able to curtail its finance expense and overall cost, which have led to its loss coming down by more than Rs 1,800 crore against last year.

Government Aid and Strategic Initiatives

Strategic turnaround initiatives such as spectrum sale and government capital infusion have been helping BSNL business significantly, Ravi further added.

The company has launched new services like National WiFi Roaming, BiTV – Free Entertainment to all mobile subscribers and IFTV for the customers of FTTH. On-going emphasis on quality service and assurance has also added to the trust of customers and bolstered the position of BSNL as a telecom giant in India, he continued.

Rs 262 crore profit this time indicates the turnaround and sustainability of BSNL in the long run. On this growth path, we continue to be committed to providing more value to our shareholders, creating more market opportunities, and innovating,” Ravi said.

Expansion and Digital Advancements

The telecommunication company experienced strong double-digit growth in its operations, with revenue in mobility services growing by 15%, FTTH revenue growing by 18%, and leased line services revenue by 14% during the December quarter from the same quarter last year.

BSNL has been investing heavily to extend its network under a 4G acceleration and fiber-optic upgrade initiative. The company has enhanced urban and rural connectivity and launched customer-focused digital services like national WiFi roaming, which enables internet across networks.

This turnaround in the financials is a testimony to the dedication of BSNL to delivering quality, affordable telecommunication services and spearheading India’s digital growth. The company remains dedicated to the improvement of service delivery, increase in customer base, and contribution to the Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, the statement continued.
